William Burns warns that the next six months will be “crucial” in the war in Ukraine and that “political fatigue” could play into Russia’s hands

Director INCH, William Burns, confirmed that the United States is “convinced” that China is considering supplying Russia with lethal equipment for its war against Ukraine. “We are convinced that the Chinese leadership is considering the supply of lethal equipment,” Burns told Europa Press in an interview with CBS. However, the head of the US intelligence agency indicated that a final decision has not yet been made and that there is no evidence of deliveries of lethal weapons for now.

Burns’ comments come a day after US President Joe Biden said there was currently no evidence Beijing had supplied deadly weapons to Moscow. In this sense, the resident of the White House assured in his press statements that at the last meeting with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, he warned him about the consequences of sending lethal weapons to Russia.

“I had a long conversation with Xi about this in the summer. I said, ‘Look, this isn’t a threat, it’s just a statement.’ When, in fact, the Europeans saw what was happening and the Americans saw what was happening in Russia, in Europe, guess what? Six hundred companies pulled out and left,” Biden said.

In addition, the director of the CIA pointed out that The next six months will be “crucial” in the war in Ukraine given the declining Western interest and the existing “political fatigue” among countries that support the Ukrainian government, according to what he told CBS. “Putin, I think, is betting right now that he can make time work for him (…) The key will be on the battlefield in the next six months, it seems to us,” Burns emphasized, claiming that fatigue and time would help the Russians could give the troops a new chance to earn on the battlefield.

For the head of the US intelligence services, this is important break through “Putin’s arrogance” so, as each month passes, there is an increasing risk for Russia to lose the territory it has so far “illegally” seized from Ukraine.

position of Iran

As for Iran, Burns wagered that it has not yet decided to resume its nuclear weapons development program, which has been suspended since 2003. He also warned that the United States “will not allow” Tehran to acquire nuclear weapons.

He also described ties between Russia and Iran as “particularly worrying”, after it emerged that Tehran had provided drones and appropriate training to Putin’s forces in Ukraine.
