The massacre of Bucha

After the withdrawal of Russian troops, hundreds of civilian bodies were found in the Kiev suburbs, some with signs of torture and their hands tied. It was the worst war crime ever committed. Since then, the name “Bucha” has stood for the brutality of the Russian army.

US President Joe Biden makes a surprise visit to Kiev. For the first time, a US president travels to a war zone without his own military being present. The visit is a sign of hope – and a clear message to Putin: the United States is firmly on Ukraine’s side.

February 24

After a year, the war of attrition is in full swing. It is unclear how many people have lost their lives so far as a result of the Russian invasion. The figures vary widely depending on the source. According to the Ukrainian side, about 140,000 Russian soldiers were killed. The UN has already documented more than 7,000 dead Ukrainian citizens – the real number is probably many times higher.
