Selenskyj thanked for the “essential” military support. “You are actually helping to save the lives of Ukrainians,” he said. He also thanked Madrid for the announced delivery of Leopard 2 tanks.
Sánchez is the third major leader to visit Ukraine this week, after US President Joe Biden and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
The Spaniard flew to Poland for the first time early Thursday morning, as reported by Spanish state television channel RTVE, citing the government in Madrid. There he boarded a train that first stopped in Bucha, a suburb of Kiev, where Russian troops had massacred civilians a year ago at the start of the offensive war. In Bucha, Sánchez visited, among other things, the Orthodox Church with Mayor Anatolij Fedoruk.
The Spaniard then made another stop to visit the suburb of Irpin before continuing on to the capital. It is Sánchez’s second visit to Ukraine since the start of the war. The Spaniard was already in the country on April 21 last year.
