Joe Biden calls for common sense gun law reforms

Authorities in Mississippi arrested the person Friday after he a shooting that left at least six dead and one injured in Tate County, in the northwest of the state, in the United States.

As Tate County Sheriff Brad Lance reported to CNN, the suspect is arrested after shooting his ex-partner, and presumably other members of his family in the same county.

Agents responded to the first emergency call around 11:00 a.m. (local time) when the detainee shot the driver of the vehicle next to him, near a convenience store in the town of Arkabutla.

Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves announced via Twitter that so far, It is believed that the arrested person acted alone: “I will ensure that all state resources are available to the police as we continue to investigate the situation,” he added.

Biden calls for reforms

President of the United States, Joe Biden said “enough is enough” and condemned the shooting that took place in Mississippi: “We are 48 days into the year and our nation has already suffered at least 73 mass shootings”he pointed out.

The Democratic leader called armed violence a “Epidemic” in the United States and affirms that “thoughts and prayers are not enough,” but that Congress must act now.

“Jill and I grieve for the six people killed in today’s violence in Tate County, Mississippi, as we grieve for too many Americans,” he added in a statement.

Similarly, President Biden recalled The need for “common sense” gun law reforms in the United States.

The president mentioned among the measures require background checks for all gun sales; ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines; closing the ex-partner hole completely to keep guns out of reach of domestic abusers; require safe storage of weapons and end immunity for gun manufacturers who knowingly put weapons of war on our streets.

As Biden emphasized, all of these reforms are “sensible” measures that “Congress could pass right now and save lives.”
