Accelerated visa procedures also for Syrians At least nine dead after Cyclone Gabrielle in New Zealand

Syrian earthquake victims who want to stay temporarily with relatives in Switzerland can get a visa more quickly. Switzerland uses the accelerated procedure not only for Turkish nationals, but also for Syrian nationals.

The decisive factor is not nationality, but whether a person lived in the affected area, Agnès Schenker, spokeswoman for the Federal Ministry of Justice and Police (FDJP), said on Sunday at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency. With that she confirmed the reports of SRF and “NZZ am Sonntag”.

At the time of the earthquake, many Syrians were in the Turkish part of the earthquake zone, Schenker added. The biggest difficulty for applicants is probably obtaining a valid travel document: “We have no influence on that”. (sda)
