After an attack by the terrorist militia Islamic State (IS) in Syria, the death toll has risen to at least 68. Among them were 61 civilians and seven soldiers, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Saturday. Earlier, at least 53 deaths had been mentioned.
The terrorists, armed with submachine guns, attacked a government checkpoint in the eastern city of Al-Suchna for the first time on Friday evening. They then “randomly” fired at truffle collectors in a nearby field, the observatory reported. All attackers then managed to escape.
According to this information, IS extremists kidnapped about 75 people in the region and killed 16 a few days ago. Dozens are still listed as missing. Years ago, IS controlled large parts of Syria and neighboring Iraq. The militia in the region is now considered militarily defeated. Yet there are still groups that carry out attacks in both countries.
