Pennsylvania Govt To Ban Executions What We Can Learn From Warren Buffett’s Latest Investment Strategy

The governor of the US state of Pennsylvania does not want to execute prisoners during his term. “If an execution order lands on my desk, I will sign a pardon every time,” Democrat Josh Shapiro said Thursday (local time). He also called for the abolition of the death penalty in Pennsylvania.

The 49-year-old was elected governor of the state in November’s midterm elections and took office in January. His predecessor, Democrat Tom Wolf, also opposes the death penalty and instituted a moratorium while in office.

More than 1,560 people have been executed in the United States since the death penalty was reintroduced in 1976 — three in Pennsylvania, according to the Death Penalty Information Center. However, no one has been executed there since 1999.

Six convicts have been executed nationwide since the beginning of the year alone. 23 of the 50 US states have abolished the death penalty. (sda/dpa)
