A Russian major general reportedly committed suicide after losing his job in January. This is reported by the Russian state news agency ‘Tass’. Accordingly, it was Vladimir Makarov, who was previously the deputy head of the Main Directorate for Countering Extremism at the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to the report, Makarov was found in a country house in the village of Golikovo, northwest of Moscow. According to the Internet portal “Baza”, Makarov allegedly shot himself. The tabloid «Moskovsky Komsomolets» reports that firearms were known to be kept in the house.
The 72-year-old is said to have been partly responsible for the observation of members of the opposition, such as journalists critical of the Kremlin. According to information from the website “rucriminal.info”, Makarov suffered from depression after his release and, according to relatives, he no longer knew what to do with himself.
Recently, there were several reports of influential officials in Russia dying under mysterious circumstances.
