Zelenskyy: “Shared vision of the road to victory” – the nightly update without photos Brazilian lawyer is killed by his own gun – for taking her to the MRI

Volodymyr Zelenskyj hopes for further deliveries of weapons and especially fighter jets. In Germany nobody wants to know about it (yet) – here is the night update.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is hoping for a decision on further arms transfers to his country at the meeting of the so-called Ukraine Contact Group on Tuesday in Brussels. “We are working to ensure that all of our negotiations are reflected in our partners’ arms decisions,” Zelenskyj said in his video evening address Monday. This applies both to the so-called Ramstein format led by the US and to the anniversary of the February 24 attack on Ukraine.

Thanks to Selenskyj to Scholz and Macron

A few days after his meeting with Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and French President Emmanuel Macron, Selenskyj called last Wednesday’s talks in Paris “very intense”. “The three of us talked very openly with each other and that enabled us to find a common understanding of the prospects in this war.” He thanked Macron and Scholz for their joint support for Ukraine’s European integration. “We have a common vision on the road to victory,” Zelenskyj emphasized.

The current developments in the live ticker:

Baerbock: Don’t argue about fighter jets

Before the Western Allies discussed further arms deliveries to Ukraine, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock confirmed that the German government is not currently considering supplying fighter jets. “This is not a debate we are having,” the Greens politician repeated on Monday during a visit to the Finnish capital Helsinki. Defense ministers and military officials from Western countries meet in Brussels on Tuesday for another Ramstein-style meeting, named after the US air base in Rhineland-Palatinate, the site of several Ukrainian meetings.

Melnyk expects delivery of fighter jets sooner or later

On the other hand, Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Andriy Melnyk assumes that Germany will supply fighter jets to his country and calls for a quick decision on this. “German experts also say that Germany will supply the fighter jets, it is only a matter of time,” he said on Monday evening in the ARD program “Hart aber fair”. But the longer the debate on this goes on, the more difficult it becomes for Ukraine to liberate the territories occupied by Russia.

“We hope that the Germans, that the federal government is not drawing red lines now (…), but will address what is important to us,” Melnyk emphasized, adding: “The time factor is crucial.” Ukraine assumes that, as with the main battle tanks, a European-transatlantic fighter jet alliance will be forged.

More fighting at Bachmut

Heavy and extremely bloody fighting continues, especially around the city of Bakhmut in the eastern region of Donetsk. The defense ministry in Moscow confirmed on Monday that Russian fighters had captured the Bakhmut suburb of Krasna Hora. The day before, Wagner’s private Russian army had already claimed the settlement for itself. However, so far there is no confirmation from Ukraine. According to the Ukrainian military administration, a woman and a man were killed in Russian shelling in the Kherson region. The information could not be independently verified.

Energy despite Russian attacks

On Tuesday, for the third day in a row, there are no regional limits on electricity consumption in Ukraine. According to state network operator Ukrenerho, this is due to the fact that all nine nuclear power plant units are running under Ukrainian control. In addition, unused blocks of combined heat and power plants are in operation and, thanks to the well-stocked rivers, the hydropower plants also provide more electricity than usual. According to the head of the Kiev electricity supplier Yasno, Serhiy Kovalenko, isolated power cuts in the capital are due to bottlenecks in the power grid.

Since October, the Russian army has been trying to damage the electricity supply, at least the railways and industry, with targeted attacks, mainly on substations. According to Ukrainian sources, hundreds of missiles and drones were used.

Baerbock strengthens NATO candidates Finland and Sweden

Foreign Minister Baerbock urges Finland and Sweden to join NATO soon. “At the NATO summit in Madrid last summer, we jointly laid the foundations for accession. And of course we expect all NATO members to implement this decision without delay,” the Greens politician said in Helsinki on Monday, referring to Turkey’s blockade. Hungary has not yet given permission either. All currently 30 NATO members must agree to the expansion.

The commander of Ukraine speaks with the US general ahead of the meeting in Brussels

Before the Western Allies discussed further arms shipments to Kiev, Ukrainian Supreme Commander Valeriy Zalushnyi called US General Christopher Cavoli. He spoke to the Supreme Commander of NATO forces in Europe about the training of Ukrainian soldiers abroad – and about the situation at the front, Zalushny said. A victory for Ukraine means not only the liberation of the territories occupied by Russia, but also the creation of conditions that make it impossible for Moscow to attack Ukraine again in the future. Zalushny regularly consults with leading Western military officials, in particular with US Chief of Staff Mark Milley.

What will be important on Tuesday

The defense ministers of the 30 NATO countries meet in Brussels. The topic will be the war in Ukraine and the alliance’s efforts to increase stockpiles of weapons and ammunition. In addition, after the alleged sabotage actions against the Nord Stream 1 and 2 natural gas pipelines, additional protection for critical underwater infrastructure must be deployed. Before the meeting, the US will organize consultations with the contact group Ukraine in the morning. Arms deliveries to Kiev are coordinated through them. Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Resnikov is also expected. (sda/dpa)
