Despite the endless suffering in the earthquake zone, miracles are still happening: six days after the devastating earthquake in the Turkish-Syrian border region, a seven-month-old baby was rescued from the rubble in southeastern Turkey. The helpers were able to rescue the boy alive from the rubble in Hatay province after 140 hours, state broadcaster TRT reports.
They had heard the child cry and had become so aware of it. A 35-year-old was pulled from the rubble after 149 hours on Sunday morning, according to the broadcaster in the same province. A five-year-old girl was released alive after 150 hours, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on Twitter.

The number of dead is now officially over 28,000 people. In Turkey alone, the death toll stood at 24,617, 3,574 deaths were last reported from Syria.
In addition, many people lost their homes: according to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, more than 1.5 million people have now sought shelter in tents, hotels or public emergency shelters. In addition, school holidays have been extended and universities are switching to distance learning for the time being – student rooms will also become available as accommodation for surviving relatives.
Turkish opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu criticized the school closures on Saturday. Young people have suffered enough in the corona pandemic, he wrote on Twitter. (aeg/sda/dpa)
