After balloon launch: US does not want a conflict with China Largest nuclear submarine in the world will be demolished

The US shot down the suspected Chinese spy balloon – but the US government still wants to avoid conflict with China. The communications director of the US government’s National Security Council, John Kirby, said Monday that the balloon was launched in accordance with international law to launch the balloon over US territory. The US would have defended their airspace and their country. There is no reason to let the tensions in bilateral relations between the two countries slide into conflict.

China had criticized the United States’ launch of the balloon over the weekend as a “clearly overreaction” by the United States that violated the spirit of international law. China reserves the right to respond if necessary, Beijing said. Secretary of State Antony Blinken canceled his trip to Beijing after balloons appeared over the northwestern United States last week.

Tensions had been brewing between the two countries even before the Chinese balloon entered US airspace, Kirby said. Blinken’s visit should have helped ease those tensions. The goal would have been to revive communication channels that fell silent after then-House Representative Nancy Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan in August.

The balloon incident therefore hampered efforts to improve relations between the two superpowers, Kirby said. After the “blatant” violation of US airspace, the time was not right for this. The visit will be made up once the conditions are met. However, we are still in contact through the embassies of both countries. (sda/dpa)
