Iran blames Kurdish groups for Isfahan attack More fired after ruthless police operation in Memphis

After a drone attack on a weapons factory in the central Iranian city of Isfahan, Tehran has blamed Kurdish groups for the attack.

The attack was carried out “with the participation and guidance of Kurdish opposition groups,” reported the Nour-News portal, which is considered the mouthpiece of Iran’s Security Council. The attackers received help from the Israeli intelligence service Mossad. Iran’s allegations could not be independently verified.

In recent months, Iran had attacked positions in the Kurdish regions of neighboring northern Iraq with missiles and drones. Tehran accuses opposition groups of supporting the country’s recent systemic protests. The conflict with the Kurdish separatists, on the other hand, has been smoldering for years.

Iran’s Kurdistan region has been a protest stronghold since protests erupted in September 2022. The wave of protests was triggered by the death of Iranian Kurd Jina Mahsa Amini in police custody. She had been arrested by the so-called vice police for violating Islamic dress codes.

However, street protests have subsided in recent weeks. Many women now express their displeasure through civil disobedience – for example, by ignoring the mandatory headscarf.

The Wall Street Journal reported after the drone attack on Sunday evening that Israel was behind the attack. The Israeli army did not comment on this. Since the Islamic revolution in 1979, Tehran has called Israel its arch enemy.
