After the brutal police operation against a black man in the American city of Memphis, there are even more personal consequences. The Memphis Fire Department announced on Monday (local time) that it had fired two paramedics and an ambulance driver. The Memphis fire chief said they failed to provide adequate medical care to the victim, 29-year-old Tire Nichols, following the police brutality.
According to media reports, the number of fired police officers has risen to seven. First, five black police officers directly involved in the operation were fired. Charges were filed against her. The five men are charged with manslaughter and aggravated assault. US media reported two more police releases on Monday, citing the Memphis Police Department.
Nichols was brutally beaten by police officers during a traffic stop in Memphis, Tennessee, on January 7. He died in hospital three days later from his serious injuries. The case has sparked protests across the US and a new debate about police brutality against African Americans. (sda/dpa)
