Tigers run away again in Johannesburg Singer and guitarist Tom Verlaine dies at the age of 73

For the second time in two weeks, a tiger has escaped from South Africa’s economic metropolis of Johannesburg. The big cat was spotted on surveillance video from an office building in the early hours of Monday morning, authorities warned residents of the suburb of Edenvale.

Wildlife authorities have launched a search for the animal and have called for reinforcements of security forces, said Keshvi Nair, spokeswoman for the NSPCA.

In mid-January, a tiger escaped from its enclosure in Walkerville, a suburb of Johannesburg. The female big cat, which attacked a man and attacked and killed several animals, was caught after a four-day search and euthanized.

Tigers do not live in the wild in Africa, but are occasionally kept on private game farms. The owners of the tiger spotted in Edenvale were initially unknown Monday morning. (aeg/sda/dpa)
