In the fight against a wave of violence among criminal gangs in Sweden, police have arrested several people and prevented a murder, according to authorities.

As the Swedish public prosecutor announced on Friday, seven suspects were arrested during a major police operation in Sundsvall, nearly 400 kilometers north of Stockholm. At the same time, weapons and large quantities of drugs were seized. Presumably unexploded bombs were also found.

Several of the suspects are charged with, among other things, preparing murder, serious weapons offenses and serious drug offenses, prosecutor Karin Everitt explains. You and the police are relieved and satisfied. “With this successful operation, we have been able to prevent several serious violent crimes. Including a murder and a number of explosions,” said Everitt.

Sweden has been battling rampant gang crime for years. In recent weeks, the Scandinavian EU country has again experienced a wave of violence, with shootings and explosives detonating in the entrance areas of residential buildings almost daily. Various gangs are in conflict with each other, including over the drug market in Sundsvall, various Swedish media recently reported.

Much of the recent violence is currently concentrated in the Stockholm area. Friday evening there was another explosion in the entrance area of ​​an apartment building in the Akalla district. As so often, no one was injured, but there was property damage. Elsewhere in the country – this time in Jönköping and Linköping – shots rang out at night. According to the police, there were no injuries.
