Nine killed by gunfire during Chinese New Year celebrations in US Hipkins succeeds Ardern in New Zealand

Nine people were shot dead during a Chinese New Year celebration in the Los Angeles area. The crime took place on Saturday night (local time) in Monterey Park.

On the sidelines of a Chinese New Year celebration, countless people were injured and more killed by gunfire in the Los Angeles area, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office announced on Twitter. According to eyewitnesses, a man shot himself with an automatic rifle. According to a Los Angeles Times report, it was still unclear whether any arrests had been made.

The incident happened shortly after 10 p.m. (local time, Sunday 7 a.m. CET) on Saturday evening in Monterey Park, an eastern suburb of the Pacific metropolis in the US state of California.

The owner of a restaurant near the crime scene said three people stormed into his home and asked him to lock the door. They said the shooter carried so much ammunition that he could reload over and over.
