Drawing “Tim and Struppi” is auctioned – record revenue expected billionaire is too soon on his own island – local police officer shows no mercy

In Paris, an original drawing of the comic adventures of “Tintin” by the Belgian artist Hergé goes under the hammer. The title page auction of the volume “Tim in America” will take place on February 10.

According to the Paris auction house Artcurial, the black and white ink drawing from 1942 is valued at between 2.2 and 3.2 million euros. In the drawing Tintin stands on a pole, his fox terrier Struppi behind him. Tintin in America is one of the best-selling albums in the series.

The record for an original Hergé drawing so far stands on the title page of the “Blue Lotus”, auctioned in 2021, for 3,175 million euros. It is expected that this value can be exceeded.

Hergé’s early work was widely criticized for colonial, racist and anti-communist stereotypes. The first comic adventures of the young reporter, who travels around the world with his dog Struppi, appeared in 1929. The last part was released unfinished in 1986, three years after Hergé’s death.
