Even on your own island you are not immune from traffic fines. American billionaire Larry Ellison had to find out. He was pulled over by a police officer after speeding his sports car and then ignoring a stop sign. Video of the incident was first published by news site Hawaii News Now.
“The reason I pulled you over is because you ran the stop sign and speeded there,” the officer told Ellison. “If that was me, then I’m sorry,” you hear Ellison reply. He tried to get home in time for dinner with his kids. “But there is no excuse, there is no good excuse.”
But the rampage in his orange Corvette isn’t Ellison’s only misfortune. When the policeman asks him to show his car papers and driver’s license, it turns out that he doesn’t have the latter with him either. He would have been fined on the spot for the offenses collected.
The policeman, on the other hand, received high praise from his superiors, according to “Hawaii News Now”. “As we all know, some communities let the elite run wild,” said Gabe Johnson, a Maui City Councilman who lives on the island. “That one of our own police officers actually treated him as an equal, as everyone should be treated equally before the law, I can proudly say: Well done MPD!”
Ellison is the co-founder of the software company Oracle and the sixth richest person in the world, according to Forbes, with an estimated net worth of $108.3 billion. The island, on which Elison owns 98 percent of the real estate, is located in the Hawaiian archipelago of the US. (t-online, aj)
