Paris lets the population vote for e-scooter rental “The Last of Us” as a TV series? Good as hell

Paris residents will be able to vote this spring on whether to keep or abolish e-scooter rentals in the city.

A citizens’ survey should be organized on April 2, Mayor Anne Hidalgo said in an interview with the newspaper “Le Parisien” on Saturday.

Three rental companies in Paris offer about 15,000 e-scooters, which tourists and locals often treat rather carelessly. There are accidents and chaos on the sidewalks and calls for a ban. The permit for the landlords expires in February.

If it is up to her, e-scooter rentals will stop in Paris, the mayor said. E-scooters are not environmentally friendly and the company’s employees are not sufficiently protected. The topic is controversial. Ultimately, however, she wanted to respect the vote of the Parisians. The use of private e-scooters should not be restricted, Hidalgo said.

In early December, the scooter rental companies tightened the rules to avert an impending ban. Users must scan their ID upon registration so that only adults can use the scooters and hooligans can be more easily identified and excluded from rentals. This should also make it easier to detect traffic violations with the scooters, which must also be given a license plate.
