An independent special investigator will investigate the discovery of several classified documents in the private rooms of US President Joe Biden from his time as Vice President. This was announced on Thursday by US Attorney General Merrick Garland during a brief appearance in Washington. The investigation into Biden is led by attorney Robert Hur.
In the search for government documents, more secret documents were found in a garage belonging to US President Joe Biden from his time as Vice President.
The “small number of additional documents” with classified information markings were discovered in a warehouse in the garage of Biden’s home in Wilmington, Delaware, the White House said Thursday. Another document was discovered in an adjoining room among stored materials.
No records were found at Biden’s home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. In this case, too, the Ministry of Justice was immediately informed.
Biden defended keeping classified government documents in his garage. “My Corvette is in a locked garage,” Biden said Thursday when asked about the find. It is therefore not the case that the documents are on the street. The president is the proud owner of a vintage 1967 Corvette, which he says was a gift for his first wedding. A journalist had asked how it was possible that Biden kept secret material next to his Corvette.
Classified information also in Biden’s “personal library”
Biden also admitted that classified information had been found in his “personal library”. He is cooperating with the Department of Justice on the case. People would know that he takes dealing with classified government documents seriously. Biden announced that he would comment in more detail on the finds at a later date, but did not provide details.
The 80-year-old gave a short speech about inflation a few minutes after the second discovery was announced – but was immediately asked about the classified documents by the press present.
Tricky situation for Joe Biden
The search was concluded on Wednesday, according to the president’s special adviser, Richard Sauber. Earlier there had been reports of another find.
It was revealed on Monday that Biden had kept classified documents from his time as Vice President Barack Obama in his private offices at the Penn Biden Center in Washington, DC.
These were found when the office was vacated last November, shortly before the important midterm elections. The situation is politically extremely sensitive for Biden, because his predecessor Donald Trump caused a scandal in the summer with a similar case. (SDA)
