A disgruntled hotel guest in China did not settle for a loud complaint: instead, the man drove his car – an Audi A5 – through the doors to the hotel lobby, leaving a trail of destruction behind him. Videos show the white car crashing into the glass doors of the hotel in downtown Shanghai, knocking them off their hinges.
Then the car, an open-top convertible, hurtles through the lobby. The car flattens everything that gets in its way. Some people look with amazement at the man’s destructiveness. “He’s crazy,” one of them yells. The car crashes into a few more doors before apparently turning toward the exit, hitting a door frame and stopping.
The incident happened Tuesday morning, police said. The 28-year-old driver had previously argued with hotel staff because his laptop was lost during his stay at the hotel. No one was injured in the incident in the hotel lobby, the police report on the Weibo online service. The driver has been arrested.
The other guests were shocked
The 28-year-old should have listened to tirades from hotel employees and other eyewitnesses to the incident earlier. As seen in the videos on the online networks, they yelled at the driver after the car came to a stop and tried to drag him out. They also tried to smash a window of the car to get the car keys. “Do you have any idea what you did?” people yell at the driver. “Are you crazy?”
Hotel staff later told AFP news agency that the man’s laptop was stolen from the guest and found outside the hotel.
