American rock band Foo Fighters are planning to return to US festivals for the first time since the death of their drummer. The band will headline the Sonic Temple, Boston Calling and Bonnaroo events in May and June.

The musicians announced this on their Twitter account on Tuesday (local time). At the end of the year, the band announced they would continue to make music together after drummer Taylor Hawkins died in March 2022.

“Over the past 27 years, our fans have built a global community, a dedicated support system that has helped us all through the darkest times together,” the statement read on Dec. 31. “Without Taylor we would never have been the band we were – and without Taylor we know we will be a different band in the future.”

The band has not yet announced who will take Hawkins’ place on drums in the future. At two memorial concerts in September, his seat was taken by several musicians, including Blink-182’s Travis Barker, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith, Devo’s Josh Freese and Hawkins’ son Shane.

Taylor Hawkins was found dead in a hotel room in the Colombian capital Bogotá on March 25 while on tour. The cause of death was not disclosed. However, a forensic examination found several substances in Hawkins’ body, including marijuana, antidepressants, benzodiazepines and opioids. (aeg/sda/dpa)
