Scandal of US President Joe Biden (80): As reported by various US media, confidential documents from his time as Vice President under Barack Obama (61) have been found in his former office of a think tank.
These would be documents with the “highest level of confidentiality”. Biden’s lawyers discovered the documents last November and turned them over to the responsible national archives, Biden’s special counsel Richard Sauber said Monday.
These are a “small number” of confidential documents, Sauber said.
Now the FBI is investigating
The find is extra explosive because ex-President Donald Trump (76) is currently being investigated for a similar incident. Last August, investigators seized more than 100 confidential government documents during a search of Trump’s private residence.
Regarding the documents from Biden’s time as vice president, Special Counsel Sauber said the attorneys found them in a locked cabinet at the Penn Biden Center think tank, which is affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania.
The White House is working with the National Archives and the Justice Department on this matter, Sauber said. The documents were “not the subject of any prior investigation or investigation”. Since her surrender, Biden’s lawyers have been working to “ensure that all records of the Obama-Biden administration are properly filed.”
CBS News reported that Attorney General Merrick Garland ordered the Chicago Attorney’s Office to review the documents. The FBI is also investigating. According to CBS, there are about 10 documents, but according to a source quoted by the broadcaster, they do not contain any nuclear secrets.
Trump calls for more investigation into Biden
Last August, detectives searched ex-President Trump’s home in Mar-a-Lago after he ignored repeated requests to help recover documents stolen from the White House.
The FBI found thousands of government documents in Trump’s home, including more than 100 marked confidential — some with a particularly high classification.
After the documents surrounding Biden became public, Trump said: “When will the FBI raid Joe Biden’s many apartments, maybe even the White House? These documents have certainly not been released.” (dzc/AFP)
