400 billion francs – that’s how much money Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Co. lost in 2022 Aargau shoe company Fretz Men will close in mid-2023 after 120 years

Imagine losing billions of francs in just one year – and you’re still almost the richest person on the planet. This is what Elon Musk will do in 2022. But the new Twitter owner is not alone with his deep red numbers, other tech heavyweights have also bled financially in this difficult year, according to a calculation by the “Washington Post”:

Steve Balmer: -19 billion

Ballmer was CEO of Microsoft from 2000 to 2014, and the majority of his wealth comes from these stocks. However, because the software giant faltered last year, Balmer dropped a lot of feathers this year.

Bill Gates: -27 billion

Microsoft founder Bill Gates needs no introduction – and he also bled financially this year. Interestingly, his portfolio is quite diversified, which is why his percentage loss is roughly in line with that of the major stock market indices.

Sergey Brin: -40 billion

Google co-founder Sergey Brin was also hit hard. It’s been a tough year for companies making money from online advertising, and the search engine giant hasn’t been left untouched.

Larry page: -42 billion

The situation is similar to the second Google co-founder Larry Page. He also suffered from the bad year for Google.

Mark Zuckerberg: -75 billion

The name change from Facebook to Meta failed to break the negative trend, and Mark Zuckerberg lost nearly two-thirds of his wealth. With that, Zuckerberg dropped from 6th to 25th place on the list of the richest people in the world. Its loss this year roughly mirrors Angola’s GDP (73rd in the world).

Jeff Bezos: -78 billion

If online advertising collapses, so does Amazon. The stock fell by half this year, making 2022 the worst year in the company’s history. However, the crash was preceded by an extreme growth period during Corona.

Elon Musk: -122 billion

Tesla CEO and Twitter buyer Elon Musk has suffered the most financially. Musk’s problem child at the moment is Tesla, but the chaos on Twitter has probably left its mark. With a loss of the equivalent of 122 billion Swiss francs, Musk had to admit defeat in the ranking of the richest people and settle for second place. Frenchman and Christian Dior owner Bernard Arnault is now the richest person in the world.
