The British economy shrank slightly more than previously assumed in the summer.
Gross domestic product (GDP) fell by 0.3 percent in the third quarter compared to the previous quarter, the ONS statistics office reported on Thursday after a second estimate in London. An initial calculation had shown a decrease of 0.2 percent.
Development was mainly hampered by the weak production performance. Total industrial production fell by 2.5 percent in the quarter. The construction sector also shrank. The result was only slightly offset by the services sector, which grew by 0.1 percent. According to calculations by ONS, total economic output is currently 0.8 percent lower than before the outbreak of the corona pandemic. (sda/awp/dpa)
