According to information from Tehran, a delegation from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will soon travel to Iran to settle the bilateral disputes.
Iran’s nuclear chief Mohammed Eslami announced this on Wednesday. “An IAEA delegation will come to Tehran in the coming days. We hope that this step will overcome hurdles and clarify differences»said the nuclear chief and vice president, according to Isna news agency.
In a November resolution, the IAEA Steering Committee accused Iran of a lack of transparency regarding its nuclear program and indirectly threatened to implicate the UN Security Council. In particular, the IAEA is seeking explanations about three locations in Iran where traces of nuclear material have been found, indicating past covert activity. Tehran denounced the resolution as politically motivated and subsequently began enriching uranium to 60 percent at the Natans complex and also at the Fordo underground facility in central Iran.
After the US pulled out of the Iran nuclear deal in 2018, Tehran began breaking the deal’s restrictions and making IAEA audits more difficult. Iran is currently enriching uranium to a purity of 60 percent. That’s not significantly below the 90 percent needed for nuclear weapons, according to the IAEA. Iran claims to be technically capable of enriching the uranium to a purity level of 90 percent. According to the 2015 Vienna Nuclear Treaty, Iran cannot enrich its uranium beyond 4 percent.
