Second-hand Christmas gifts are becoming increasingly popular

According to this, about 40 percent of those surveyed are now open to buying used items and giving them away.

Especially young people between the ages of 25 and 44 are open. Half of them can imagine putting a second-hand gift under the Christmas tree this year. One third of this age group has done this in the past.

Current economic conditions also affect shopping patterns

“Even against the background of the current economic situation, existing gift buying behavior patterns are being reconsidered,” HDE director Stefan Genth explains of the research. “The Christmas business is becoming increasingly complex and presents opportunities for companies to implement innovative offerings.”

According to the study, sustainability and a lower price were the main reasons for choosing a second-hand gift. According to the trade association, especially the elderly and especially women indicate that they are more happy with a used gift than with a new one.

However, the survey also showed that the majority of people still have concerns and that the trend is mainly in the field of online shopping. 1000 people were questioned. (AFP)
