Compared to the “climatically relevant reference” from 1961 to 1990, according to SRF Meteo, temperatures in both the north and south were almost 3 degrees above the norm – compared to the current norm from 1991 to 2020 by about 1.5 degrees. Only in the high mountains, along the central and eastern foothills of the Alps and in Valais, temperatures did not reach record levels.

Both May and June were the second warmest since records began in the mid-1800s, as SRF Meteo further announced. July landed in 4th place after 1983, 2006 and 2015, followed by August in 3rd place behind 2003 and 1992. In September, the temperature temporarily dropped just below average (1991 to 2020).
