Art for Iran protests in New York

The eye painted on a staircase, along with works by other artists, was recently exhibited at a park on Roosevelt Island. The work “Offered Eyes” dates from 1993. On the other side of the East River, to the south, the main building of the United Nations is clearly visible. The show “Eyes on Iran” should be shown until the end of the year.

Neshat, one of the most important Iranian artists, has already highlighted the protests in Berlin with an oversized banner in front of the main entrance of the New National Gallery.

Born in Iran in 1957, the artist lives and works in New York. She has already received awards such as the Golden Lion at the 1999 Venice Art Biennale and the Silver Lion at the 2009 Venice Film Festival for best director.

The systemic protests in Iran have been going on for almost three months. The reason for the nationwide protests was the death of the Iranian Kurd Mahsa Amini. She died in police custody on September 16 after being arrested by vice squad for violating Islamic dress code.
