Parachute saves base jumper’s life – but not in the way intended $35,000 worth of iPhones and Macbooks – US Apple Store robbed on Black Friday

In “Kane Creek Canyon”, near the city of Moab in the US state of Utah, a spectacular base jumping accident recently took place that some hikers accidentally captured on video:

A family observed the situation while hiking in Kane Creek Canyon southwest of Moab. Mitch Edwards described how he and his family could see BASE jumpers jumping off a cliff not far into the canyon. “It’s a spectacular canyon with huge cliffs on either side, about 200 meters high,” says Edwards.

Blessing in disguise

They decided to stop and watch the BASE jumpers. About half a dozen have gathered on the top of the cliffs. After two successfully jumped and landed, Mitch and his 12-year-old son, Baron, pulled out their phones to pick up the next person.

That’s when the accident happened. Probably due to a gust of wind, the next BASE jumper crashed into the red rock face. Fortunately, after a few meters his parachute caught somewhere in the rocks, so that the extreme athlete, who had been knocked unconscious by the impact, did not fall to his certain death.

Brave rescuers are already on the scene

Edwards estimated it took about two hours to get the base jumper down. Climbers who also happened to be in the canyon at the time were significantly involved. The Grand County Sheriff’s Office praised the rope team for the rescue, saying the man was helicoptered to a hospital in critical condition. (lzo)
