German Chancellor Scholz announces new security strategy for Europe Explosions at military airfields in Russia ++ Putin on Crimean bridge

In response to Russia’s war against Ukraine, Germany wants to become one of the main guarantors of European security.

In an article for an American magazine, Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that he would present a new national security strategy at the security conference in Munich in February. Russia launched a new wave of attacks on the neighboring country’s infrastructure on Monday.

Overall, however, according to British information, Moscow is conducting significantly fewer fighter missions than in previous months of the war. Several people were killed and injured in a drone strike on two Russian military airports.

Threat scenario: Scholz announces new strategy

“The world must not allow (Russian President Vladimir) Putin to have his way,” Scholz wrote in the US magazine Foreign Affairs. “We must stop Russia’s revanchist imperialism.” Germany must take responsibility.

These included investments in the Bundeswehr, strengthening the European arms industry, a greater presence on NATO’s eastern flank and training and equipment for the Ukrainian armed forces. For decades, security policy has been made against the background of a peaceful Europe. “Now the focus will be on the threats we and our allies face, mainly from Russia.”

New attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure

In the war that has been going on since late February, Russia launched a new wave of missile strikes. According to local reports, the water supply in the southern Ukrainian port city of Odessa has collapsed due to a power outage. According to official information, there were also power outages and associated disruptions to district heating and water supply in the industrial town of Kryvyi Rih in the southeast.

Explosions – partly caused by Ukrainian air defenses – were also reported from the center and west. In the afternoon, air raid sirens went off all over Ukraine.

London: Number of Russian fighter jet missions is decreasing

According to analyzes by British intelligence, Russian fighter jets have significantly reduced their deployment in Ukraine. Now a few dozen missions would be flown per day.

In March there were still about 300, according to the Ministry of Defense. The air force has lost more than 60 aircraft so far, including a Sukhoi Su-24 (NATO code: Fencer) bomber and a Sukhoi Su-25 (Frogfoot) ground attack aircraft last week.
