Austria wants to confiscate Raser cars

According to Minister of Transport Leonore Gewessler (Greens), this possibility is provided for in a legislative amendment.

Gewessler announced in Vienna on Monday that anyone exceeding the speed limit by at least 60 km/h in the city or 70 km/h outside the city should expect to lose their car and have their driver’s license temporarily revoked. After an investigation of the previous driving behavior, it is then decided whether the seized car will be auctioned.

“Extreme frenzy is life-threatening to all other people on the street,” said the minister. For example, there was recently the case of a driver in Vienna who drove at a speed of 104 in a 30 zone.

In Germany, according to the ADAC, the vehicle may only be seized and confiscated after illegal car races.
