The Albanian Taulant Lulaj is a teacher and has worked in many Swiss schools. He specializes in students with ADHD (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder). In the Albanian “Fol Shqip Show”, Taulant Lulaj spoke about his experience so far and what he can advise parents, as reported by the Albanian diaspora portal “albora.ch”.
He sees digitization as a major problem for many children. She shouldn’t come into contact with it too quickly. “There’s no rule, but it says they can’t use or watch TV until they’re three years old.”
Some parents would argue that their children could learn English from YouTube videos. But Lulaj thinks the cons outweigh the cons. According to him, too early media consumption is harmful. The speed is the problem. Many colors, many videos. That’s too much for kids.
“The decision is unfair and short-sighted”
He is equally critical of the decision of the district school in Reinach-Leimbach AG. The management has announced a ban on foreign languages on the playground. The children are only allowed to speak German.
Background: Instead of learning German, Chindsgi children prefer to speak Albanian and Italian with each other. According to the school, this leads to poorer language skills among the little ones. Compulsory German should change that: with the aim of ‘providing as many children as possible the best possible opportunities at school and later on the labor market’, according to municipal councilor Bruno Rudolf (SVP).
Taulant Lulaj does not think highly of this arrangement. “The decision is unfair and shortsighted.” Finally, as soon as the children left the school building, they spoke Albanian again. When he started working as a teacher, there were almost no teachers with an Albanian background.
