These are the most spectacular streets in the world These 20 streets are breathtaking Comment removed by SRF News: Before the Federal Supreme Court, a case for the SRG Ombudsman

It does not matter if it is a coastal road, a pass road or just a small road somewhere in a city: the most incredible routes with asphalt roads are being developed worldwide. We’ve collected 20 of the most spectacular roads.

🇨🇳 Tianmen Mountain

This road leads through the mountains for about 11 kilometers through the Tianmen National Park in Zhangjiajie in Hunan Province of China. 99 hairpin bends were counted during a climb of about 900 meters.

🇨🇳🇵🇰 Karakoram highway

The Karakoram Highway, which runs from northwest China to Pakistan, is considerably longer at 1,284 kilometers. On the way through varied areas you drive through the mountains Pamir, Karakoram and Himalaya. In winter the road is partially closed. One of the highlights is certainly the highest point of the route, the Khunjerab Pass at 4693 meters above sea level.

🇮🇳🇵🇰 Khardung La

Which brings us to the question: what is actually the highest pass in the world? The Khardung La is often mentioned here. The latest measurements showed it to be 5,360 meters above sea level, which is probably not quite the highest. But the road up from Leh (3500 m) to Khardung La offers 39 kilometers of spectacle. Even in summer it can snow here. Normally, the military tries to keep the pass passable all year round.

🇫🇷 Come on Lava

Let’s go to Europe and the Combe Laval road. The four kilometer long road in the Vescors massif has developed into a tourist highlight.

🇨🇭 derborence

We also have something like the Combe Laval in Switzerland. The route to Lac de Derborence from Sion is one of the most spectacular Postbus routes.

Even more beautiful Swiss roads:

🇳🇴 Lofoten

The Norwegian tourist route Lofoten winds over 230 kilometers from A to Raftsundet. Several bridges, the sea, fjords, islands – what more could you want?

This is how streets are called in Switzerland:

🇧🇴 Camino de la Muerte

In Bolivia, the Camino de la Muerte, the road of death, is less romantic than the Lofoten. The Yungas road descends from La Paz to Caranavi. In the past, trucks had to cross the narrow road here. These days it’s mainly tourists on mountain bikes who hurtle down the road (and then it’s beautiful too).

🇿🇦 false bay

My personal favourite: the road from Gordon’s Bay to Hermanus. Beautifully located on False Bay, plenty of opportunities to lie on the beach and mountains on the other side. Plus the penguin colony at Betty’s Bay – not yet as busy as Simon’s Town.

🇳🇿 Dunedin

We’re on a shortcut. Baldwin Street is only 350 meters long. It gained fame because it is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the steepest street in the world. With a maximum gradient of 35 percent, the road has become a famous landmark in Dunedin in New Zealand’s South Island.

These two Swiss also discovered many “roads”:

🇪🇸 Cala de Sa Calobra

The route to Sa Calobra, a small town by the sea, is called the Grand Canyon of Mallorca. About 30 kilometers from Palma a winding road leads us about 700 meters down to the bay. One of the highlights: the badger head, visible in the photo left of center. Here a tunnel runs under the private street.

🇷🇴 Transfagarasan Pass

The Transfagarasch High Road connects the Arges Valley with the Olt Valley. The approximately 90 kilometer long road climbs to 2,042 meters above sea level.

🇫🇷 Calanche de Piana

On the west coast of Corsica, the D81 from Porto to Piana is one of the most beautiful roads on the island. Especially the stretch through the Calanche de Piana is impressive. Red rocks, scarred by wind and weather, rise into the sky in all shapes. The stretch is about 1.5 kilometers long.

There are so many roads through your hometown:

🇳🇿 Milford Rd

We will return to New Zealand soon. If you want to get from Te Anau to the famous Milford Sound, you have only one option: 120 kilometers along the Milford Road. Perhaps the most beautiful cul de sac in the world. Fiordland National Park will amaze you with its high mountains, lakes, waterfalls and forests.

🇮🇹 Sales round

In between, another tip for racing bike friends. The Sella Ronda in the Dolomites over the Campolongo Pass, Pordoi, Sella and Gardena Passes. The streets are steep, but the view makes up for it. It doesn’t really matter where you start, we recommend going clockwise. And if you want to do all this without a car, you can do so on the annual Sellaronda Bike Day in June.

🇺🇸 san francisco

This is probably the most winding road in the world. Lombard Street in San Francisco winds 145 meters through the residential buildings. The Russian Hill section is a one-way street with eight hairpin turns and a 27 percent gradient.

🇬🇧 Dark hedges

Do you like avenues? Then to Northern Ireland. Here are gnarled beech trees to the left and right of the Bregagh Road near Ballymoney in the north of the country. The road even made it onto the “Game of Thrones” series as the “Royal Road”. The road is now closed to cars.

🇨🇭 tremola

Yes, yes, Switzerland deserves two entries. What would a list of beautiful streets be without the legendary Tremola. The cobblestones up to the Gotthard are an impressive structure.

For all bike and pass friends:

🇫🇷 Passage du Gois

Don’t worry: the cars in the picture are not in danger. You are on the Passage du Gois to the Île de Noirmoutier in western France. At low tide you can cross the road without any problems, at high tide it goes under water. Up to 300,000 cars use the five kilometer long road every year. About ten times a year (usually) tourists underestimate the flood and have to be rescued by the fire brigade.

🇷🇺 Siberia

“Street of Bones” is the haunted nickname of Kolyma Street in northeastern Siberia. Many Gulag labor camps were built in the area. From 1932 to 1953, prisoners had to build the approximately 2,000 kilometers long road from Magadan to Yakutsk. Many died, hence the nickname. The scenic drive, on the other hand, is a pleasure these days.

🇨🇳 Shanghai

We end the list again with China. There would be countless very special roads in the Middle Kingdom. The giant empire is also known for its rather confusing intersections. Here’s an example from Shanghai.
