The German Christian B.* (45) is suspected of being responsible for the disappearance of the then three-year-old Maddie. A new arrest warrant has now been issued against B. The competent criminal court has confirmed an urgent suspicion of five sexual offenses. The German regional court in Braunschweig announced this on Monday.
The public prosecutor had already filed a report against the 45-year-old in October. He is charged with three counts of aggravated rape and two counts of child sexual abuse. He is said to have committed the crimes between the end of December 2000 and June 2017 in Portugal, where the then three-year-old British girl Madeleine McCann disappeared from an apartment complex in May 2007.
With B. there is a risk of recurrence
According to the court, it is currently not possible to execute the new arrest warrant because it requires permission from Italy. The suspect was arrested there before being extradited to Germany. Approval is required at the public prosecutor’s office in Braunschweig.
The 45-year-old is currently serving a seven-year prison sentence for the 2005 rape of an American woman in Praia da Luz, Portugal.
For the time after that, the 2nd Penal Chamber in Braunschweig also sees the reasons for the risk of absconding and the risk of recurrence, as a spokeswoman explained. The public prosecutor’s office in Braunschweig is responsible because the last German place of residence of the suspect before his stay abroad was in Braunschweig. (SDA)
