Andy Hackett (42) from Great Britain has landed a monstrous goldfish. In early November he traveled to France in Champagne to try his luck in one of the best carp areas in the world, the Bluewater Lakes. And suddenly there was a monster fish on the hook. The fight with him lasted 25 minutes, he explained to the BBC. The fish is a cross between a leather carp and a koi carp.
Goldfish, commonly kept as pets, don’t grow more than a few inches, but they are members of the carp family and can grow quite large.
This particular specimen, said to be 20 years old, appears to have been launched 15 years ago to offer anglers something new, a spokesman for the carp area explained. But the giant goldfish has not been seen for years. He became a legend among fishermen. “I always knew Carrot was there, but I never thought I’d catch it,” Hackett told the Daily Mail.
“It was great catching him”
When something bit into his bait, he realized it must be a big fish. But he hadn’t expected the monster goldfish. Finally he saw the orange scales. “It was great to catch him, but it was also pure luck.”
After taking it out of the water, his first thought was that there were no scales large enough to determine the weight of the fish. But the concern was unfounded: the goldfish could be weighed and weighed about 30 kilos.
The Brit then posed with his catch and released The Carrot.
Carp area has a five-year waiting list
According to the Daily Mail, it could be the largest goldfish in the world. In 2019, a fisherman landed a goldfish in the United States. This put 15 kilos on the scales.
If you want to try your luck yourself to catch the huge fish, you need patience. The waiting list for Bluewater Lakes is so long that anglers have to wait at least five years. (jmh)
