False callers near the Kremlin defraud Polish President Duda The volcanic eruption in Tonga at the beginning of the year was the strongest ever recorded

A week ago, a Russian-made missile landed in Poland. Since then, the search has been ongoing for the perpetrator. A Russian comedy duo questioned the Polish president about it – posing as Emmanuel Macron.

Prank call in the context of missile impact

After a missile hit Poland’s border with Ukraine, President Andrzej Duda was tricked by Russian comedians during a phone call. In the conversation published on the Rutube platform, the duo fooled Duda into talking to French President Emmanuel Macron. Comedians Vovan (Vladimir Kuznezow) and Lexus (Alexej Stoljarow) are behind the action.

The recording of the conversation begins with a hesitant “Hello?” of the Polish president, to which the alleged Makron shouted “Hello, my friend!” responded. Duda then immediately starts talking and reports to Macron about the missile strike in the border area with Ukraine. This happened on the same day of the call.

“It was, without a doubt, a missile. We don’t know who fired them. It was a Russian missile, so made by Russia»Duda explains in shaky English.

Duda reports on talks with NATO

Then things got explosive: Duda went on to report that he had already spoken to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and announced that Poland could apply to initiate proceedings under Article 4 of the NATO treaty. Article 4 provides for consultations between NATO states if one of them considers the integrity of its territory, political independence or its own security to be threatened.

Duda also tells the caller about his phone conversation with US President Joe Biden. Only then does the alleged Macron first intervene in the conversation. “And what does he say? Does he accuse Russia?”, the caller wants to know. “No,” answers Duda. Biden has launched investigations and he wants to wait for the results himself. However, the caller does not seem interested in further details, while he impatiently interrupts and asks, “Yes… what is Zelenskyy’s position? He blames Russia?”

Duda confirms this. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is absolutely convinced that the missile was launched by Russia. The alleged Macron interjects that he is just asking for more guns. Duda then lets out a dry laugh:

“Emmanuel, believe me, I’m extra careful, I don’t blame Russia. Emmanuel, this is war. Both sides will blame each other.”

The caller keeps trying to talk Duda into conscience:

“We don’t need escalation. We don’t need escalation between NATO and Russia.”

Duda seems a bit surprised by this obvious statement:

“Emmanuel, do you think I want war with Russia? No, believe me, I don’t want that. And I’m extra careful. Extra careful.”

He only talks about Article 4 and not Article 5, he assures. Article 5 of NATO stipulates that all NATO countries provide assistance to the attacked NATO country.

At the end, Duda becomes suspicious

After talking about the missile, the caller changes the subject. What do you think of dirty bombs, he asks Duda.

“I’m more concerned about a possible disaster at Ukrainian nuclear power plants than about dirty bombs.”

After that, Duda’s caller wants to know what Vladimir Putin told him. Duda falters during his answer, searching for words, but finally reiterates that more research is needed.

The caller then thanks Duda and probably tries to elicit some negative statements about Putin from him:

“Thank you, my friend, I’m tired of them both. Especially from Vladimir.”

However, Duda seems to have already smelled the fuse. He said goodbye to the call without responding and wished the caller a good evening.

Poland responds on Twitter

After the phone call was published, the Polish presidential administration immediately released a statement on Twitter.

The call came during “several phone calls with heads of state and government” after the missile exploded, they write. During the conversation, Duda recognized from the unusual course of the conversation that it could be an attempt at deception and ended the conversation.

This comedic duo is behind it all

The duo “Vovan and Lexus” has been known in Russia for years for defrauding politicians and other international celebrities with fake phone calls. Earlier this summer, the comedians tricked several mayors in EU capitals into believing they were in talks with Kiev mayor Vitaly Klitschko. Berlin Mayor Franziska Giffey was one of the victims of the prank. Some time ago, according to ARD information, they admitted in a “Contrasts” interview that they worked for an internet platform belonging to the Russian state-owned company Gazprom.

However, they are repeatedly accused of working for the Russian authorities and the Russian security service. The British government has also expressed this suspicion. This is because many victims of their pranks are critical of Putin and Russia. The duo denies this claim. (saw, with material from the sda and dpa news agencies)
