Siberian mayor wants to volunteer in Ukraine war

Many Russians are trying to escape the war in Ukraine. They flee abroad, hide to avoid being summoned or disobey orders and are arrested.

One sees it differently. The mayor of the Siberian city of Chita, Alexander Saposhnikov (46), has quit his job to go to war in Ukraine! He announced this on Monday on his Telegram channel.

“Where I’m Needed Most”

In his post, he addresses the residents of Chita: «I have decided to go where I am most needed today – to the area of special military operations. As a paratrooper with combat experience and as a civilian, I cannot stay away from our homeland’s fateful struggle for the right to a future.”

Among other things, he thanked the residents, community workers and teachers – “everyone who contributes to making our city a better place”. He wishes the city all the best for the future and “harmonious and dynamic development”, as well as happiness and prosperity for the people of Chita, he writes in the post.

Saposhnikov has been mayor of the city since late 2019. (Man)
