Record yield at wine auction in Beaune, France

“The results are historic and spectacular,” said François Poher, director of the hospice. With this year’s total, the previous record revenue of almost 14 million euros from 2018 has more than doubled.

Top quality wines are sold at the Beaune Hospice charity auction, held annually on the third Sunday in November. The so-called president piece, a barrel of 228 liters, was sold for 810,000 euros, breaking last year’s record of 800,000 euros. This year, proceeds from the presidential play will go to two children’s charities.

Thanks to a bountiful harvest this year, an unusually large number of wines were auctioned at the auction. The vines in Burgundy had weathered the summer drought well due to the heavy rainfall in June – resulting in a 2022 vintage classified as exceptional after a very poor harvest in 2021. (SDA)
