Retaliation for Istanbul attack: Turkey attacks Kurds in Syria and Iraq North Korea reveals photos of Kim’s daughter for the first time

The Turkish army attacked Kurdish positions in northern Syria and northern Iraq on Sunday night. The justification for the attacks is the attack that killed several people in Istanbul a week ago.

The Turkish government does Kurdistan Workers’ Party PKK and the Syrian-Kurdish militia YPG responsible for last Sunday’s bomb attack in central Istanbul, which killed 6 people and injured 31 others. The Turkish attacks are in retaliation for the attack in the Bosphorus metropolis.

This is reported by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights The Turkish army attacked the Kurdish positions in northern Syria from the air. A spokesman for the organization said there were injuries and deaths. Turkish news channel CNN Türk also reported attacks on places like Kobane, which have been firmly held by Kurdish rebels until now. The Twitter page of the Turkish Ministry of Defense said on Saturday evening that the “attacks” would be avenged, it was “time for settlement!”.

Ankara considers the YPG an offshoot of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party PKK and fights both as a terrorist organization. Some experts had already speculated that the Turkish government could use the bombing as an opportunity for a renewed offensive in northern Syria. Several circles had previously expressed doubts about the credibility of Turkey’s account of the background to the Istanbul attack:

The YPG – as part of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) – is present in the areas now under attack, according to the report. In its statement, the Ministry of Defense refers to the right to self-defense under the Charter of the United Nations.

The Turkish army has repeatedly conducted operations against the PKK in Iraq and against the YPG in Syria. In the past, the Bundestag’s scientific service had expressed doubts as to whether similar missions were compatible with international law.

Syrian state television reported on Sunday morning about Turkish attacks on SDF positions, and the Syrian state news agency Sana spoke of “Turkish aggression”. SDF commander Maslum Abdi reported bombings on Twitter.

Turkey has launched four military offensives in northern Syria since 2016. Turkey occupies border areas there and cooperates with rebel groups. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, on the other hand, is supported by Russia. (con/sda/dpa)
