The sale of alcohol is already heavily regulated in Qatar. Until now, however, the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages should be allowed both in fan zones and directly in front of the stadiums. But now there is a complete turnaround: alcohol is banned in the stadiums, writes the “New York Times”.
And the turning point has become clear: a few days ago the beer brand Budweiser received instructions to set up its stands in less crowded places around the stadiums.
The fans in the stadiums will therefore have to do without alcohol at all. However, according to the New York Times, there will still be beer in VIP boxes. Budweiser, which donates $75 million to FIFA at each World Cup, and FIFA itself have not yet commented on Qatar’s decision.
The only option left to the fans is to consume alcohol in exclusive hotels or sports bars. Only non-alcoholic beer is sold in the stadiums themselves. (mom)
