North Korea fires another nuclear-capable missile

More than ten years ago, Silvio Berlusconi celebrated “Bunga Bunga parties” with young women in his villa. The politician was accused of bribery in this context because he allegedly paid a musician for making false statements. A court in Rome has now acquitted him.

A court in Rome has cleared former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi of corruption charges. According to the judges, the accusations against the 86-year-old leader of the conservative governing party Forza Italia were not confirmed, Ansa news agency reported on Thursday. “I am satisfied,” Berlusconi said of the verdict. A co-defendant singer was also acquitted.

The proceedings were a result of “bunga bunga parties” with young women at Berlusconi’s villa more than a decade ago. The politician and the singer were charged with bribery because Berlusconi allegedly paid the musician for making false statements.

According to Ansa, it appeared unlikely that any of the payments were related to false statements.

Berlusconi has yet to respond to allegations of bribery in connection with the Milan festivities. Just over a year ago, a court in Siena acquitted him in a similar case. (sda/dpa)
