It’s a new extreme. The Iranian regime is responding to the ongoing protests with unprecedented brutality – children are now being killed in particular. The “New York Times” reports this with reference to two dozen interviewees who wish to remain anonymous, including lawyers and human rights lawyers.
After the violent death of Mahsa Amini († 22) by the vice squad, women first demonstrated. The protests have now spread across all layers of the population and more and more minors are participating. According to Iranian officials, the average age is 15 years old, as “Al Monitor” reports.
At least fifty minors killed
They all call for the downfall of the regime. And because of this, the demonstrators can be beaten, imprisoned or shot at by security forces. Meanwhile, hundreds of children and youths were beaten and arrested.
At least 50 people were killed, according to CNN. Youths have been targeted in a wider crackdown on protests that has seen around 14,000 people arrested. According to anonymous sources referenced by The New York Times, up to 1,000 minors are being held.
The children are being brainwashed
The children would receive ‘behavioral therapy’ in juvenile detention centers. This under the supervision of clergy and psychologists who would tell the children that they had committed sins. If they had resisted, they would have been given medicine.
Amnesty International’s Diana Eltahawy told the New York Times, “What makes these protests different is that children are more visible.” They would show great determination to defy the regime and stand up for themselves for a better future. Eltahawy: “The Iranian regime will use all means to break the resistance.”
