Shocking images have been captured in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong after a Tesla Model Y went out of control. The self-driving car killed two cyclists and injured three people, including the 55-year-old driver, Reuters news agency reported.
According to information from the victim’s relatives, a fault in the brakes could have caused the accident, but this has yet to be confirmed. Photos from the accident show the white Tesla going on a wild ride through the streets of Guangdong. At full speed, the car eventually rams into a van and crashes into a wall.
In the social networks, but also by the driver of the car, the American manufacturer is blamed. In China, Tesla’s second largest market in the world, the number of malfunctions and complaints about Tesla models has been increasing in recent years.
But judging by the data Tesla extracted from the vehicle, there appears to be no evidence that the brake pedal was pressed by the driver. Tesla also relies on surveillance footage shown in the video to support this claim. The brake lights of the car did not come on.
Nevertheless, they want to “actively provide the necessary assistance” to the local police, Tesla writes in a press release. However, the manufacturer still does not admit any malfunctions that could have caused the fatal accident. For its part, the Chinese police are currently looking for a third appraisal agency to find out the truth behind the accident.
