Guitar Destroyed By Kurt Cobain Sold For Nearly $500,000 At Auction US Army Drone Has Landed Again After 908 Days In Space

A broken guitar belonging to former Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain (1967-1994) has sold at auction in New York for more than $486,000. The estimated value was $ 200,000, auction house Julien’s announced on Sunday. Cobain tore down the “1973 Fender Mustang” while performing onstage during his band Nirvana’s first US tour in 1989.

The auction was part of a three-day rock and roll auction that saw more than 1,500 pieces from musicians including Cobain, John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Prince, Amy Winehouse, Madonna and Lady Gaga under the hammer Sunday night (local time).

A 1972 gold Elvis Presley watch with diamonds fetched $256,000, a Bob Dylan grand piano fetched $217,000, and a blue Prince electric guitar fetched $192,000. Round wire glasses that once belonged to John Lennon sold for a whopping $162,000. A pair of worn-out Birkenstock sandals from Apple co-founder Steve Jobs also hit the estimate several times over—the hammer price was over $218,000.

Several Gibson guitars, painted in the blue and yellow colors of the Ukrainian flag, were sold at auction for the victims of the Ukraine war. A Gibson Les Paul guitar, which ex-Beatle Paul McCartney performed on over the summer, brought in nearly $77,000. (sda/dpa)
