Saturday morning at 8.30 am, a 48-year-old flight instructor and his 45-year-old student pilot departed for a training flight from Balzers in the Principality of Liechtenstein. In the Kammboden/Vorder Alp area at 1,880 m above sea level. M. in Maienfeld GR the pilots performed so-called mountain landings. During two landing and take-off attempts, everything went smoothly. During the third take-off, the student pilot noticed that something was wrong with the helicopter and handed control to the flight instructor. The helicopter crashed into the steep terrain, rolled sideways and head-on once, and came to rest on its sleds. The two pilots were not injured and were able to exit the helicopter on their own. They warned the rescuers, the cantonal police of Graubünden wrote in a statement.
The heavily damaged helicopter was recovered, transported with tractor and trailer to Jenins and from there transported by truck to Payerne VD for the investigations. The federal prosecutor’s office (BA) is responsible for the investigation. The Swiss Safety Investigation Board (SUST) is responsible for investigating the cause of the accident.
