Kiev announces the liberation of more areas – the night update without photos Donald Trump is going crazy – and we can be happy

Zelenskyj wants to continue liberations

After retaking the southern Ukrainian regional capital Kherson, President Volodymyr Zelenskyj announced the liberation of other areas currently occupied by Russia. “We don’t forget anyone, we don’t leave anyone behind,” Zelenskyj said in his daily video address on Saturday night. Meanwhile, Ukrainian police officers and representatives of the military administration returned to Kherson.

Ukrainian police and authorities back in liberated city of Kherson

A few days after the withdrawal of the Russian troops, representatives of the Ukrainian regional administration and security authorities returned to the liberated city of Kherson in the south of the country. For example, police and secret services have already resumed their work in Kherson, Governor Yaroslav Yanushch said in a video showing him in the center of the regional capital. One of the most important tasks at the moment, according to Januschewych, is to clear the area.

Russia had largely conquered the Kherson region shortly after the start of its war of aggression in late February and annexed it in September in violation of international law, along with the regions of Zaporizhzhya, Luhansk and Donetsk. Under pressure from Ukrainian counter-offensives, Moscow has in recent days withdrawn its troops from all parts of Kherson northwest of the Dnipro River, including the eponymous regional capital Kherson.

Russian occupiers evacuate Ukrainian dam town of Nowa Kakhovka

On the other side of the Dnipro, the Russian occupiers have meanwhile announced the evacuation of the dam town of Nowa Kakhovka. Kakhovka’s board is retreating to a safe place along with the city’s residents, local crew chief Pavel Filipchuk said, according to Russia’s state news agency TASS.

It is feared that shelling could destroy the dam and flood the area. Russians and Ukrainians have been accusing each other of planning such a provocation for weeks. Ukrainian forces have identified Kakhovka’s government as the “number one target for a terrorist attack” in the region, Filipchuk claimed. Ukraine rejects intentions of sabotage.

Putin talks to Raisi about expanding economic relations

Kremlin chief Putin and Iranian President Raisi have discussed further expanding relations between the two countries hit by Western sanctions. The call focused on “political, trade and business cooperation,” the Kremlin said afterwards. Iran has good relations with Moscow and has recently been criticized for supporting Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.

About a week ago, Tehran admitted for the first time that it had also supplied combat drones to Russia – albeit before the start of the war in late February. Ukraine, in turn, accuses Iran of significantly increased arms supplies to Moscow.

Turkey: Moscow restricts shipping via Kerch Strait

Russia will no longer allow ships loaded abroad to cross the Kerch Strait towards the Sea of Azov, Turkey said. “The passage of ships loaded outside Russian territory is prohibited through the Kerch Strait to the north,” the responsible body of the Turkish Ministry of Transport said on Twitter. A spokesman for the ministry said the tip came from Russia, without giving further details. There was initially no comment from Moscow.

That will be important on Sunday

A central commemorative event in the Bundestag this Sunday (1.30am) on the day of national mourning will commemorate the victims of war and tyranny. Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier speaks the traditional commemoration of the dead. Latvian President Egils Levits delivers the memorial speech. This year’s event is dedicated to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. (sda/dpa)
