Donald Trump’s attorneys (76) filed a lawsuit in a Florida court on Friday evening (local time) to challenge the panel’s subpoena. In it, they argue, among other things, that the committee does not have the power to compel Trump to testify.
In addition, the summons violates, among other things, the administrative law of the ex-president. This is the prerogative of a president to keep certain information secret.
The committee had asked Trump to be available for a multi-day under oath hearing from Monday. It was a rare escalation. After the subpoena, Trump initially left open how he would respond.
Trump mounted his supporters
Trump supporters violently stormed the seat of Congress in Washington on January 6, 2021. Congress met there to formally confirm Democrat Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election.
Trump had previously incited his supporters in a speech that he had been robbed of victory by mass electoral fraud. Five people were killed in the riots. The committee in the House of Representatives is working on the attack. (SDA)
