Three New York correctional professionals, Steven C.*, 49, Eduardo T.*, 42, and Monica C.*, 36, pretended to have illnesses and accidents for a year. They just didn’t feel like working. They prefer to party or go on holiday. All the while they collect their full wages. Under the contract, city law enforcement officers have unlimited sick leave. And that’s exactly what they took advantage of. The friends now have to answer to court for the brutal blues, the “New York Post” reports.
It all started in the spring of 2021. Steven C., who earns more than $160,000 a year, claimed to suffer from side effects of the corona vaccination. In doing so, he submitted more than 100 fake doctor’s letters from various doctors at work.
At the same time, he pursued his passion and wrote a comic book. Apparently unafraid of being exposed with his lies, he proudly posted a photo of himself on Instagram and wrote that his book would be out soon.
They traveled to the Dominican Republic and Florida
Monica C., on the other hand, who made $80,000 a year, pretended to have injuries. Officers caught her at parties outside her house when she should have been home. When confronted by investigators, she admitted to falsifying 50 medical documents.
Eduardo T., Monica C.’s fiancée, also feigned injuries. The couple’s indictment reads: “He appeared with a combination sling, walking stick and/or boot at medical appointments with the City Correctional Services.” The couple traveled to the Dominican Republic, Florida and West Virginia.
The three friends were arrested Thursday morning and brought before a federal court in the afternoon. (lrc)
