Giorgia Meloni calls for more action against climate sinners UN calls for immediate aid for boat refugees

The Italian Prime Minister said at the world climate conference in Egypt that we were at a crucial point in history and that solutions had to be found, “we owe that to the next generations”.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni urges the biggest climate sinners among the states to be held more accountable. Meloni said on Monday at the World Climate Conference in Egypt that fighting climate change is a collective effort and requires the full commitment of all countries and international actors.

“Unfortunately, we have to admit that this is not happening,” she underlined. The countries most involved threatened to pay a high price as opposed to those primarily responsible for global carbon emissions. “This is paradoxical and requires action to eliminate inequality.”

If this fails, all efforts and events such as the world climate conference in Sharm el Sheikh could be in vain. You are at a crucial point in history and now you need to find solutions, “we owe that to the next generations”.

Meloni announced that Italy will remain strongly committed to reducing its CO2 emissions and achieving the goals of the Paris climate agreement. The Mediterranean country strives for greener energy sources and better diversification in general.

Most recently, the new prime minister had already indicated that she could envision more solar energy systems in southern Italy. At the same time, however, she announced that she wanted to extract more natural gas from Italian soil and seas in order to become more independent. (sda/dpa)
